چکیده

• Soft constraints are exploited within the Surrogate Lagrangian Relaxation framework. Synchronous parallel algorithm utilizes multiple cores to improve performance. Near-optimal solutions for sub-hourly unit commitment based on Polish system. Unit (UC) is an important problem solved a daily basis strict time limit. While hourly UC currently used, they may not be flexible enough accommodate growing changes of demand and increasing penetration intermittent renewables. Sub-hourly therefore recommended. This, however, will significantly increase complexity even under deterministic setting because considerable number intervals, leading drastic numbers system coupling binary variables as compared that UC. Consequently, existing methods able obtain good limit large problems. In this paper, considered with innovative exploitation “soft constraints” - do need strictly satisfied but their violations penalized by predetermined coefficients. in conjunction our recent “Surrogate Absolute-Value Relaxation” approach where “relaxed problem” required fully optimized, facilitates formation resolution new type subproblems soft (e.g., reserve transmission capacity constraints) relaxed. This then leads reduction multipliers, decreased computational requirements, improved solution quality. To further enhance speed, version developed. Testing results demonstrate effectiveness robustness both sequential versions at finding high-quality

Unit Commitment Solution Methods

An effort to develop a unit commitment approach capable of handling large power systems consisting of both thermal and hydro generating units offers a large profitable return. In order to be feasible, the method to be developed must be flexible, efficient and reliable. In this paper, various proposed methods have been described along with their strengths and weaknesses. As all of these methods ...

Exploiting Identical Generators in Unit Commitment

We present sufficient conditions under which thermal generators can be aggregated in mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) formulations of the unit commitment (UC) problem, while maintaining feasibility and optimality for the original disaggregated problem. Aggregating thermal generators with identical characteristics (e.g., minimum/maximum power output, minimum up/down-time, and cost curves)...

Decomposition algorithm for large-scale two-stage unit-commitment

Everyday, electricity generation companies submit a generation schedule to the grid operator for the coming day; computing an optimal schedule is called the unit-commitment problem. Generation companies can also occasionally submit changes to the schedule, that can be seen as intra-daily incomplete recourse actions. In this paper, we propose a two-stage formulation of unit-commitment, wherein b...

A new method for unit commitment with ramping constraints

Unit commitment with ramping constraints is a very difficult problem with significant economic impact. A new method is developed in this paper for scheduling units with ramping constraints within Lagrangian relaxation framework based on a novel formulation of the discrete states and the integrated applications of standard dynamic programming for determining the optimal discrete states across ho...

Exploiting Tree Decomposition and Soft Local Consistency In Weighted CSP

Several recent approaches for processing graphical models (constraint and Bayesian networks) simultaneously exploit graph decomposition and local consistency enforcing. Graph decomposition exploits the problem structure and offers space and time complexity bounds while hard information propagation provides practical improvements of space and time behavior inside these theoretical bounds. Concur...
